Our Story

Eliza Mary Global Network (EMGN) was born through a mastermind program that our founder Melisa Alaba facilitated in the summer of 2016. The group was comprised of powerful women on a mission to help advance each other and grow their businesses. Over the course of three months, the members increased their networks, developed a new mindset and held each other accountability for their big dreams. It was during this time that Melisa wondered what if every woman of color had a community like this one. Melisa knew that so many businesses failed because they didn’t have the right support, limited mindset or lacked connections that could build their business. Melisa decided to change that!

Elevate Me Global Network was launched in March 2016. Because social entrepreneurship was so important to the foundation of the organization Elevate Me Global Network became The Eliza Mary Global Network in August of 2016. This change highlighted the social impact that entrepreneurs and business women of color have in the community. In the spirit of Mary Eliza Church Terrell whose accomplishments, activism, and philanthropy was made possible through her parents who used entrepreneurship to set a new course. We honor the achievements of Mary Eliza Church who was a charter member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People( NAACP), Co- Founder and first president of the National Association of Colored Women, an advocate of women’s rights and philanthropist. It is with this spirit that we call ourselves an EM Sister.  At the heart of EMGN, we are dedicated to helping women build businesses that thrive through creating powerful connections and education.

We launched with our first conference (IWD Summit)  in honor of women on International Women’s day on the beautiful campus of Georgia Tech college in collaboration with Ivan Allen College Global Women's Entrepreneurship Initiative (GWEI). It was followed by chapter launches in Washington DC and Chicago, Illinois. Eliza Mary Global Network continues to thrive towards fulfilling its mission and vision..
